I was twelve years old when I was introduced to the inner workings of an equestrian facility. My father was working at Lane’s End Farm, a breeding farm, in Versailles, Kentucky, and it was here that he began teaching me about the correct way to care and handle stallions, yearlings, and broodmares. He also showed me the importance of properly caring for and maintaining a clean and safe facility. At 14, still at Lane’s End, I moved to the jumper/hunter barn and started learning everything I could about this discipline. What characteristics and innate abilities are visible in a great hunter and jumper. I learned what training techniques are utilized to accomplish desired results, and what equipment and its proper fit generated positive reactions and outcomes for each horse. When I was 15, I traveled to my first horse show, and it was there that I realized that my life would be dedicated to the complete care of these amazing animals.
Shore Acres Farm’s tagline is, “It’s all about the horse.” This is our mission and our mindset which I believe in and take extremely seriously. I believe that I have the experience and training to notice if a horse is having issues, and what actions are available and might be necessary to help resolve it. Ultimately, it comes down to what is best for the horse. I am thrilled that Janie and Mike have given me the opportunity and authority to be the “voice” for each and every horse under our care.
